Minister of Oil lays foundation stone for largest reference laboratory for oil and its derivatives in Africa

Minister of Energy and Oil Dr. Mohi-Eddin Naeem Mohamed Saeed said, within the framework of our efforts to work on implementing the state policy aimed at controlling quality, monitoring, examining and auditing petroleum materials according to international standards and rationalization in addition to liberalizing fuel, we started today to implement a reference laboratory in Port Sudan.

This came during the laying of the foundation stone for the oil and its derivatives laboratory at the ministry’s buildings in Portsudan on Thursday, which is the largest oil and its derivatives laboratory in Africa that works to examine crude oil and all petroleum derivatives according to international quality and specifications.

The minister appreciated the step and its importance for the oil sector and Sudan in general in addition to providing services to the region, especially landlocked countries, stressing that the laboratory works to provide examination services for oil and petroleum derivatives that were previously carried out outside the country and inside the country in Khartoum and the Portsudan refinery, promising the Sudanese people to complete the project on time for its opening.

The Head of the Crude Oil and Fuels department at the General Administration of Laboratories, Research and Petroleum Studies, Dr. Walid Saleh Ibrahim, said that the laboratory was designed with high capabilities to ensure the quality control of crude oil and all petroleum derivatives, including all types of jet gas, gasoline, diesel, furnace, cooking gas, lubricating oils, grease, water, measurement and calibration, explaining that each product has an international specification.

He stressed that the laboratory building was designed with three floors according to international specifications and contains a number of devices and equipment for the aforementioned crude and derivatives, indicating that the laboratory took into account the availability of all the aids that ensure that the internal and external environment of the laboratory is not affected, indicating that the project will work to accommodate young new graduates with experience from other laboratories.
