Sudan Freezes Its Membership in IGAD

Foreign Ministry announced that Head of the Transitional Soveignty Council, 1st. Lt. Gen. Abdul Fatah Al-Burhan has sent a written message today, Saturday 20 January 2024 to President of Djibouti who is the Chair of IGAD’s current round, H. E. Ismael Gila, informing him that the Sudanese government decided freezing its membership in the organization.
The decision comes due due IGAD’s neglection to Sudan’s official decision of not engaging in any issues concerning Sudan, but despite that Sudan’s issue was included in the agendas of the recent extraordinary summit No. 42 of IGAD which was held on Thursday 18 January in Kampala, the captical city of Uganda and boycotted by Sudan.
The communique of the summit inculded phrases that breach the sovereignty of Sudan and hurt the feelings of the victims who suffered the atrosities committed by the rebelled RSF militia.
The letter concluded that the Sudanese government has nothing to do with any of IGAD decisions on Sudan’s issue and is not committed to any of it.
