Official of Horn and East Africa at Dutch Foreign Ministry visits El- Fasher

The official for the affairs of the Horn of Africa and East Africa at the Dutch Foreign Ministry, Sana Leonhard, started today, a visit to the capital of North Darfur state El Fasher.

The Dutch official held meeting upon her arrival with he government of N. Darfur state, chaired by the Secretary-General of the state government, the Acting Wali, Hafiz Bakhit Mohammed.

The acting governor said in a press statement following the meeting that they discussed with the Dutch official the progress of work in the implementation of livelihood projects represented in the development of the gum belt, which the Netherlands began to implement in five localities in the state through the FAO organization.

He pointed out that the meeting also discussed the progress of work in the humanitarian axis, on which the visiting delegation aknowleged on the need to support the efforts made for the refugees and displaced persons return to their villagesof origion after providing the necessary aids, indicating the state’s needs for development and service, especially the development of water, health, education and agricultural services, with discussions on the issues of the rule of law.

The Dutch official stated that her visit to Darfur comes within the framework of the follow-up to the joint development program in which work has begun with the government of Sudan, especially in the states of Darfur, indicating that the program includes the implementation of a project to support livelihoods for farmers in the gum arabic belt through the FAO, in addition to implementing the project to strengthen governance and the rule of law through the United Nations Development Programme, noting that the program of her visit, which will extend for two days, includes, in addition to holding a meeting with the state government, other meetings with stakeholders to learn about their needs and enhance opportunities to provide support.

It is worth pointing to the series of meetings held by the Dutch official in the capital, Khartoum, yesterday, which included the Forces of Freedom and Change, the Central Council group and the UNITAMS mission, the representatives of the parties to the political process, stakeholders and civil society, during which she affirmed her country’s unlimited support for the framework agreement and the aspirations of the Sudanese people for democratization.
