Sudan Participates in the 42nd Arab Ministers of Social Affairs Council Meeting

Ahmed Adam Bakheet, Minister of the Ministry of Social Development, headed the delegation of Sudan participating in the 42nd session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Development, which was hosted by Qatar during the period from 22 to 26 January 2023 under the supervision of the Technical Secretariat of the League of Arab States, Social Affairs Sector, Development and Policies Department, and under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of Qatar.
Maryam Al-Misnad, Minister of Social Development and Family in the State of Qatar, assumed the presidency of the current session (42) of the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which chaired the previous 41st session.
Sudan Minister of Social Development thanked snd and appreciated the State of Qatar for the hospitality and good organization of the Council’s meetings, expressing his congratulations to the State of Qatar for the resounding success in hosting the FIFA World Cup 2022, as it proved its ability to compete with major countries .
Bakheet pointed out to the role of the State in extending social protection through the pioneering experiences of social security funds and mechanisms concerned with different categories of social protection.
He stressed the importance of focusing on the issues of displaced persons and refugees within the agenda of the meetings for further support, coordinate and build partnerships, as he looked forward for more cooperation between Arab countries to achieve common goals in eradicating poverty and supporting groups with special needs.
He also noted the need to involve international and regional organizations concerned with these issues in implementing the goals of the Arab countries in supporting vulnerable segments to make them productive groups rather than recipients of support.
The meeting witnessed the discussions of several initiatives, including the Second Arab Decade for Persons with Disabilities, follow-up to the implementation of the Arab Strategy for the Elderly, updating national strategies for the family, as well as a number of studies related to children’s rights, and the social and solidarity economy to support vulnerable groups.
