Stem Cells: the latest curing technology in medicine is in Sudan

A delegation of The Citizen have visited The Second Forum of the Outputs of Scientific Research and Innovation, conducted at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The forum is made annually with the participation of many excellent universities, medical companies, and natural food products centers. My colleague Haffiya Elyas has covered all parts of the forum as she reported at a full article found at our website. But in this article I would like to focus at one part of this scientific forum that got my attention very well, that is the participation of Alneelain Stem Cell Center ASCC, it is the first center in Sudan to focus on the sciences of Stem Cells, it was founded in 2017 by Alneelain president Professor Kamal Hashim with the collaboration of many great Sudanese scientists and researchers also working at Alneelain University.
To get to know the work of this center, it is important to know some information about Stem Cells, what are they? And what can they do? So, Stem Cells are the body’s raw materials, cells from which all other cells with specialized functions are generated. Under the right conditions in the body or a laboratory, stem cells divide to form more cells called daughter cells. They are called the body’s “master cells,” which are the cells that develop into blood, brain, bones, and all of the body’s organs. They have the potential to repair, restore, replace, and regenerate cells, and could possibly be used to treat many medical conditions and diseases including therapies with spinal cord injuries, type 1 diabetes, Parkinson’s disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, heart disease, stroke, burns, cancer and osteoarthritis.
The work of Alneelain Stem Cell Center is such a tremendous start for the medical history in Sudan, as it works to develop final solutions for many diseases. During our visit at the forum we have met two of the scientists who work at this center of Alneelain University, Dr. Mawada Yousif Mohammed, a researcher and a lecturer, and the medical engineer Azza Mohammed Alabass. They informed us about the work of the center, as it consists of several departments including most importantly Stem Cells Technologies, Molecular Biology Science, and Genetics Departments. The center is also conducting focused Training Workshops at the previously mentioned sciences.
Alneelain Stem Cell Center was also conducting a live clinic at the forum for patients with conditions that need these advanced technologies for therapy. The clinic was headed by Dr. Mohammed Alfatih Mohammed and his assistant Dr. Dalia Omar. which I believe is a positive and active solution for Sudanese patients.
That was not it, Sudan has extraordinary scientists and having this technology in Sudan will help us very much curing as many as hundreds of cases of anemia and different types of cancers that will afford more money to be treaded outside. So stay tuned, as at the coming days we will have an in-depth interview with the managers, researchers, and scientists of Alneelain Stem Cell Center ASCC to tell us more about the actual work of the center at advancing these latest technologies for research and therapeutic uses.
