UN Condemns Escalating Drone Attacks in Sudan

UN Secretary-General António Guterres strongly condemned the escalating drone attacks in Sudan by parties to the conflict, and the catastrophic impact of these attacks on civilians.
A statement issued by the Secretary-General’s spokesperson on Saturday said that drones have killed hundreds of civilians, including women and children, across Sudan and in Abyei (located between Sudan and South Sudan), constituting violations of international humanitarian law.
In the statement, the Secretary-General condemned all attacks targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure, including health facilities.
He called on the parties to the conflict to refrain from endangering civilians and vital infrastructure, and to agree without delay to a cessation of hostilities as a first step towards ending this devastating conflict.
He reiterated his urgent appeal to the parties to engage in good faith with mediation efforts. The statement affirmed that the United Nations stands ready to support any efforts aimed at advancing a sustainable political solution that reflects the aspirations of the Sudanese people.
