Putin Reaffirms Partnership with Sudan, Al-Burhan Presents an Offer to Russia

During his meeting with Head of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, on the sidelines of the third Russia-Africa Summit in Moscow, Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized Sudan’s importance to Russia as a key partner on the African continent, coinciding with the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The meeting comes amidst Khartoum and Moscow’s efforts to expand economic and investment cooperation. The mining sector has previously emerged as one of the areas through which Sudan seeks to attract Russian investment, particularly in gold and infrastructure.
In this context, Al-Burhan announced Sudan’s readiness to grant the Russian side sites for investment in gold, copper, and other mineral extraction, a move reflecting a trend toward expanding the economic partnership between the two countries and leveraging Sudan’s mineral resources.
Previous reports indicated Khartoum’s aspiration to expand Russian investments in several vital sectors, including energy, mining, agriculture, and infrastructure.
