British Parliament Commemorates El Fasher Massacre; Darfur Alliance Demands Accountability

The Darfur Alliance participated in an event held at the British Parliament on Monday, October 26, 2026, to commemorate the first anniversary of the atrocities and massacres committed by the Rapid Support Forces militia in El Fasher, which left a profound humanitarian tragedy in the hearts of the Sudanese people, and Darfurians in particular.
The participation came at the invitation of the British Foreign Office, and the event was marked by an atmosphere of grief and sorrow. Members of the British Parliament, representatives of civil society organizations, and figures concerned with Sudanese affairs participated, along with senior leaders of the Darfur Alliance in the United Kingdom, amidst calls for justice and accountability for those responsible for the crimes and violations witnessed in the city.
The Associations held a meeting with the UK’s Secretary of State for International Development and Africa, Kirsty McNeil, ahead of the commemoration. They discussed several pressing issues related to the humanitarian situation in Sudan and Darfur, foremost among them the need to end impunity, Britain’s responsibility to protect civilians, and support for international efforts to achieve justice and hold perpetrators of international crimes accountable.
The delegation also stressed the need for the British government to use its diplomatic influence to pressure the United Arab Emirates to cease all support for militias that contributes to the continuation of the war and violations against civilians. They further emphasized the importance of working to stop the genocide and crimes targeting the Sudanese people and ensuring that the tragedies witnessed in El Fasher, El Geneina, and other parts of Sudan are not repeated.
The Alliance believes that commemorating the El Fasher massacre should not be limited to remembering the victims and expressing grief, but should also be an occasion to renew the international commitment to justice, take practical steps to protect civilians, ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid, and hold accountable all those found responsible for crimes committed against the Sudanese people.
