Sudan condemns Houthi attack on Makkah and reiterates its solidarity with Saudi Arabia

The Sudanese government condemned on Wednesday the Houthi group’s drone attack on Makkah, asserting that targeting Makkah and the Holy Kaaba, the Qibla of Muslims and the holiest place on earth, constitutes a heinous act of aggression and a blatant violation of the sanctity of Islamic holy sites, as well as a highly dangerous provocation of the feelings of all Muslims.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation emphasized that the sanctity of the Two Holy Mosques and the holy sites, and the safety and security of those who visit them, are inviolable and cannot be threatened. It stressed that subjecting them to any hostile acts or using them in the context of conflicts and disputes represents a dangerous and reprehensible escalation.

The statement added, “The Sudanese government affirms the necessity of respecting the sanctity of the holy sites and sparing them the dangers of escalation, in order to preserve the security and stability of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the region as a whole.”

The Sudanese government expressed its full solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, its support for the Kingdom, and its legitimate right to take whatever measures and actions it deems necessary to protect its security and territorial integrity, preserve the sanctity of the Two Holy Mosques, and protect the pilgrims.
