Minister of Livestock: Partnerships with Universities to Transform Scientific Research into Productive Projects
Professor Ahmed Al-Tijani Al-Mansouri, Minister of Livestock and Fisheries, affirmed the Ministry’s commitment to expanding partnerships with universities, animal production colleges, and scientific research centers, and to leveraging the outputs of scientific research and studies to develop livestock production cities and projects across the states.
This came during his visit this morning to Gezira University, accompanied by a delegation from the Ministry and Dr. Arafa Mahmoud, Minister of Production and Economic Resources for Gezira State, to learn about the university’s experience and research and scientific capabilities in the fields of animal and agricultural production, and to explore existing projects and opportunities for their development.
Al-Mansouri explained that the Ministry seeks to build practical partnerships with academic and research institutions, enabling the application of scientific knowledge and modern technologies to develop and enhance the efficiency of animal production. He pointed to the importance of utilizing academic expertise in addressing the sector’s challenges, achieving added value for animal products, and increasing exports.
The Minister of Livestock and Fisheries announced an agreement with Gezira University to form a joint committee to prepare proposals, prioritize them, and transform them into a comprehensive action plan that includes implementation requirements and priority programs. He emphasized the Ministry’s support for the university’s existing projects.
For her part, Dr. Arafa Mahmoud, Minister of Production and Economic Resources for Gezira State, stressed the importance of coordination between the state government and Gezira University to leverage the university’s scientific and research expertise in developing livestock and agricultural production projects. This, she noted, would contribute to enhancing productivity and opening broader horizons for marketing products in local and international markets.
She pointed out that the state possesses significant production potential in both the livestock and agricultural sectors, which necessitates utilizing scientific and research capabilities to develop these resources and transform them into productive projects with sustainable economic returns.
Professor Salah El-Din Mohamed El-Arabi, Vice-Chancellor of Gezira University, affirmed the university’s readiness to dedicate its scientific and research capabilities and the expertise of its academic staff to serving livestock and agricultural production projects and contributing to their development through applied studies and research that address the needs of the production sector.
Thevisit comes within the framework of the Ministry’s direction to link scientific research with development and production, and to enhance integration between government institutions and universities, in order to support efforts to develop the livestock sector in Gezira State and to improve its contribution to the national economy and enhance opportunities to access regional and global markets.
