IGAD Executive Secretary: It Is Time to Shift from Dependence to Capacity Building

The Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, praised African expertise in various fields. During his address at the 13th International Conference and Exhibition of the East African Healthcare Federation, held in Addis Ababa, with the participation of health ministers, policymakers, and healthcare leaders from member states, he urged investors to recognize the importance of innovation and ambition in building resilient health systems, creating jobs, attracting investment, and strengthening local industries. Workene emphasized that the time is right to shift from dependence to capacity building, from aid to investment, and from importing solutions to developing African solutions. He noted that Africa has proven its ability to determine its own destiny, and now it is up to us to prove our ability to ensure our own health.
