Foreign Minister Affirms African Union Delegation’s Visit to Khartoum After Liberation from Militia is Historic

Foreign Minister and Minister of International Cooperation, Ambassador Mohi El-Din Salem, affirmed Sudan’s welcome of the visit by the delegation of ambassadors from the African Union Peace and Security Council to Khartoum. He noted that the visit is of particular significance as it comes after the liberation of Khartoum, the defeat of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia, and the restoration of security and stability to the capital.

In press statements today (Sunday), following a meeting between the Prime Minister, members of the government, and representatives of political and civil forces with the African delegation at the Cabinet headquarters in Khartoum, the Foreign Minister said that the visit is historic in every sense, allowing the delegation to witness firsthand the extent of the destruction caused by the militia.

He added that the meeting was attended by a symbolic number of political forces and parties, noting that a short documentary film about the militia’s crimes and violations was shown during the meeting.

For his part, Ambassador Mohamed Khaled, Algeria’s Permanent Representative to the African Union and Chairperson of the African Union Peace and Security Council for August, affirmed the Union’s solidarity with Sudan and the Sudanese people. He stated that the Union would support Sudan in its efforts to restore security and stability and preserve its unity and territorial integrity.

He also emphasized the Peace and Security Council’s commitment to the African Union’s principles of respect for the sovereignty and unity of states and non-interference in their internal affairs, and its rejection of any interference in Sudan’s affairs.
