World Nubian Forum: Statement on the Occasion of World Nubia Day

Every year on July 7th, Nubians across the globe stand with pride and honor, recalling their rich history and renewing their pledge of loyalty to the land of Nubia, its language, culture, and timeless human heritage.
The World Nubia Forum was established in the 1990s to serve as a unifying platform for the people of Nubia. It has brought together Nubians in Sudan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United States, Canada, Europe, and Australia, and has connected them worldwide through various communication channels, becoming a hub for thought, culture, dialogue, and collaborative action.
Since its inception, the Forum has shouldered the responsibility of defending Nubian causes, maintaining a presence at various national and cultural events, advocating for Nubian human rights. Foremost among these efforts were the Kajbar Dam issue and the campaign to combat night blindness in Wadi Halfa. The Forum also supports all initiatives aimed at preserving the Nubian language, documenting heritage, and solidifying Nubian identity in the hearts and minds of future generations.
The World Nubian Forum proudly commemorates World Nubia Day, an initiative launched by the late Professor Mohamed Suleiman Waliab (may God have mercy on him) on July 7, 2004. This day has become an annual occasion where hearts unite before words, and the Nubian flag is raised high above all borders, sending a message that Nubian identity endures and that Nubian civilization will remain a shining beacon in the annals of human civilization.
July 7, 2026, serves to reaffirm that the responsibility for preserving Nubia is no longer solely that of pioneers, but has become a duty for every Nubian man and woman, both within and outside the country, so that Nubia remains present with its language, culture, and values, strong in the unity of its people, and proud of its glorious history.
On this occasion, the Forum, with deep appreciation and loyalty, commemorates the first anniversary of the passing of the Nubian artist, writer, and researcher, Makki Ali Idris, may God have mercy on him, who departed this life on July 8, 2025, after a life rich in contributions, creativity, and service to Nubian heritage. His legacy will forever stand as a testament to his sincerity and dedication to serving Nubia and its people.
The Forum also pays tribute with deep respect to its founders and pioneers who planted the seed of this magnificent edifice, foremost among them Suad Ibrahim Ahmed, Khalil Issa, Engineer Abubakr Sayed Ahmed, Mohamed Suleiman Waliab, Makki Ali Idris, Sharif Mahmoud, the Nubian poet Ibrahim Abdo, and Al-Fatih Mahmoud Ali Idris, as well as all those who contributed their intellect, writing, effort, and time to serving the Forum and the Nubian cause. We pray that God Almighty may have mercy on those who have passed away and reward all those who contributed to Nubia and its people.
The Forum is proud that the Nubian language has entered a new phase of preservation and documentation, having been written in the Nubian script developed by the late Mukhtar Kabara. This is a civilizational achievement that embodies the Nubian people’s commitment to preserving their language and passing it on to future generations, ensuring it remains a vibrant and living language, carrying the memory and identity of Nubia into the future.
The World Nubian Forum calls upon all Nubians, individuals and institutions alike, to hold fast to their language and heritage, to strengthen the spirit of unity and cooperation, and to work together to preserve Nubian identity and safeguard its cultural legacy, so that this glorious history may remain a source of inspiration for future generations.
May God have mercy on the pioneers of Nubian activism, and may God protect Nubia and its people. May our unity be our strength, our language the symbol of our survival, and our heritage an enduring legacy passed down through generations.
Happy New Year to all Nubians around the world, and may Nubia remain ever proud of its history, flourishing with its culture, enduring in its language, and united by the will of its people.
