Sudan’s delegation concludes participation in the 5th UN Police Chiefs Summit
The Sudanese delegation, headed by the Minister of Interior, Lieutenant General Babiker Samra Mustafa, and the Director General of Police Forces, Lieutenant General Amir Abdel Moneim Fadl, concluded its participation in the 5th UN Police Chiefs Summit (UNCOPS 2026), which was held at the United Nations headquarters in New York. The summit saw wide participation from ministers of the interior, heads of police forces, and senior security officials from various countries around the world.
On the sidelines of the meeting, the Sudanese delegation held a series of bilateral meetings with a number of international officials and their counterparts from brotherly and friendly countries. These included ministers and officials of the interior and security ministries from Russia, China, Pakistan, Turkey, France, and Egypt, as well as with a number of UN officials and police leaders, most notably the UN Police Advisor. The delegation also held a meeting with the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism.
The meetings addressed ways to enhance police and security cooperation, exchange expertise and build capacity, and support Sudan’s efforts to rehabilitate and develop its police institutions and strengthen their technical and training capabilities.
During the meetings, the Minister provided an overview of the evolving situation in Sudan and the challenges facing state institutions as a result of the war. He reviewed the damage inflicted on infrastructure and services, and the government’s efforts to restore services and strengthen security and the rule of law. The delegation also explored opportunities for cooperation with several friendly countries in the areas of police training, combating terrorism and organized crime, cybersecurity, civil registration, criminal science, mine clearance, and developing the technical and technological capabilities of law enforcement agencies.
The meetings resulted in positive understandings regarding expanding areas of bilateral cooperation, continuing training programs and exchanging expertise, and activating joint coordination mechanisms to serve mutual interests and contribute to enhancing security and stability. The delegation also received assurances from several international partners of their continued support for Sudan in the humanitarian, technical, and police fields, and of strengthening cooperation with Sudanese state institutions in the coming period.
During the delegation’s meeting with UN officials, discussions focused on ways to enhance cooperation with UN agencies involved in law enforcement and counter-terrorism, and to support Sudan’s participation in relevant international initiatives and programs.
At the conclusion of its participation, the Sudanese delegation expressed its deep appreciation for the efforts of the Permanent Mission of Sudan to the United Nations, led by Ambassador Al-Harith Idris, the Permanent Representative of Sudan, and for the support and coordination it provided, which contributed to the success of the visit and the achievement of its objectives.
