Minister Concludes Gezira State Visit with Launch of Social Protection, Livelihood and Skills Development Initiatives
Madani, Gezira State – Sudan’s Minister of Human Resources and Social Welfare concluded a field visit to Gezira State by launching a new package of social protection and development programs aimed at supporting vulnerable communities, expanding sustainable livelihoods, and promoting economic recovery.
The initiatives included the distribution of wheat, sorghum, school uniforms, and educational supplies to beneficiaries in the localities of Wad Madani, Al-Hasahisa, and East Gezira, alongside the inauguration of a number of income-generating projects designed to strengthen household livelihoods and improve economic stability.
The Minister also launched pilot microfinance projects implemented by the Savings and Social Development Bank, as well as a tripartite partnership involving the Zakat Chamber, the Savings and Social Development Bank, and the Social Security, Solidarity and Poverty Reduction Commission.
The partnership will finance 2,000 micro-enterprises across Gezira State, targeting vulnerable groups and economically disadvantaged families as part of the government’s strategy to transform social assistance into sustainable productive opportunities.
During the visit, the Minister toured the Unified Treatment Center, which has resumed operations after being suspended due to the war. The visit underscored the government’s commitment to restoring public institutions and ensuring equitable and transparent access to medical assistance for eligible citizens.
The Minister also inaugurated the Al-Fayhaa Vocational Training Center in Wad Madani, reaffirming the government’s commitment to equipping young people with market-relevant skills, strengthening vocational training and apprenticeship programs, and encouraging private sector investment in workforce development as a key pillar of Sudan’s reconstruction efforts.
Concluding the visit, the Minister stressed that rebuilding Sudan requires more than humanitarian relief. He emphasized that effective social protection, sustainable basic services, a productive economy, and empowered youth with the skills and opportunities to contribute to national development are essential for achieving lasting recovery and prosperity.
