Khartoum Workshop Reviews Key Social Care and Shelter Issues on Its Second Day

The second day of the Workshop on Developing Shelter Homes and Social Care Systems in Khartoum State featured a series of presentations focusing on improving care and protection services for vulnerable groups as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the state’s social welfare system.

The first paper addressed shelter and rehabilitation for boys and girls deprived of parental care, highlighting alternative care approaches, psychosocial support, and rehabilitation programs aimed at facilitating their successful integration into society.

The second paper focused on elderly people lacking family care, discussing ways to improve shelter, healthcare, and social support services to ensure a safe and dignified living environment.

The third paper examined the care and rehabilitation of children in street situations (both full and partial homelessness). It explored the causes of the phenomenon, prevention strategies, rehabilitation programs, and community reintegration, while emphasizing the importance of coordination between government institutions and civil society organizations.

The workshop forms part of Khartoum State’s efforts to modernize shelter homes and enhance social care systems through practical recommendations that improve services for vulnerable groups in line with best practices in social protection and welfare.
