Good omens for “Gum Arabic” producers after opening the export route

Awadallah Ibrahim, head of the General Cooperative Union of Natural Gum Producers in Sudan, affirmed that the army’s recapture of the Omdurman-El Obeid road, the “export route,” represents a great victory and a major benefit for the Gum Arabic sector. He explained that opening the road will reduce transportation costs by 50% and expand security in production areas.

Ibrahim added that the new road reduces travel time from eight hours to just three, which will positively impact gum arabic prices and enhance its competitiveness in international markets. He added that producers had been unable to reach production areas for years due to the war, but the road’s reopening has enabled them to do so, promising increased production and exports in the coming period.

He pointed out that restoring the road will contribute to the reverse migration from cities to the countryside, where life returns to the production areas, calling for more military victories to secure the Gum Arabic areas in Al-Nuhud, Ghubaish and Wad Bakhit in West Kordofan State, in addition to Al-Khuwai, Al-Fula and others, expecting the security area to expand during the coming days.
