Sudan Liberation Forces Calls on Libya to Protect Sudanese Refugees and Respect Their Human Rights

The Secretary of Foreign Relations of the Sudan Liberation Forces, General Ali Asmara, has called on the Libyan authorities to take into consideration the humanitarian conditions of Sudanese refugees residing in Libya and to treat them in accordance with international laws and conventions governing the rights of refugees and people fleeing armed conflicts.

In an urgent statement issued today, Asmara stressed that thousands of Sudanese have been forced to seek refuge in Libya due to the ongoing war and humanitarian crisis in Sudan, emphasizing the need to protect them from any violations or measures that could undermine their safety, dignity, and fundamental human rights.

The statement noted that legal and security measures implemented by the relevant Libyan authorities should not conflict with humanitarian obligations toward Sudanese refugees. It also called for a clear distinction between efforts to combat irregular migration and the circumstances of Sudanese citizens who have fled the horrors of war in search of safety and protection.

Asmara further highlighted the historical and fraternal ties between the Sudanese and Libyan peoples, stating that these relations necessitate a spirit of solidarity and humanitarian responsibility in dealing with refugees. He affirmed that efforts through diplomatic channels and international organizations will continue to ensure the protection of Sudanese refugees in Libya and safeguard their basic rights.

The statement also revealed ongoing humanitarian cooperation with German partners and international supporting organizations aimed at providing essential assistance to Sudanese refugees and creating a safe and stable environment for them until conditions in Sudan improve and voluntary, safe return becomes possible.

The Sudan Liberation Forces renewed its call on the regional and international communities to intensify humanitarian and human rights efforts to protect Sudanese refugees. The coalition emphasized that the current situation requires a responsible international response to ensure the safety of civilians fleeing conflict and to strengthen humanitarian assistance for the worsening crisis in Sudan.
