Sudan Expands Voluntary Return Committee for Citizens Abroad

The Sudanese government announced today a decision to expand the Higher Committee for the Voluntary Return of Sudanese citizens residing abroad.

Minister of Human Resources and Social Welfare, Moatasim Ahmed Salih, said that a meeting convened by Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris, with the participation of the Sudanese Employers’ Federation, national airlines, and relevant stakeholders, discussed practical arrangements to facilitate the return of Sudanese nationals wishing to return home, particularly from neighboring countries, the region, and Gulf states.

Salih stated that the meeting reviewed challenges related to financing the return process and prioritizing the most vulnerable groups.

He added that the meeting adopted a decision to strengthen coordination and implementation mechanisms, expand the Higher Committee for Voluntary Return, and develop an electronic system for registering and classifying returnees linked to the national identification number. The participants also discussed the establishment of a fund to support voluntary return, reintegration, and livelihood opportunities for returnees.

The Minister praised the Sudanese Employers’ Federation, business leaders, and national airlines—Sudan Airways, Tarco Aviation, and Badr Airlines—for their significant contributions to supporting voluntary return programs and for their willingness to continue playing this national role, reflecting the spirit of solidarity and national responsibility during this important stage in the country’s history.

He emphasized that the return of Sudanese citizens to their homeland in dignity and safety is a national priority and a key pillar of recovery, reconstruction, and the restoration of normal life across Sudan.
