Minnawi: A new tragedy committed by the militia today, burning several villages in Urshi

Commander Minni Arko Minnawi, Governor of Darfur and head of the Sudan Liberation Army Movement, posted the following on his Facebook page:
“What has happened to our people in Darfur—genocide, ethnic cleansing, and forced displacement—represents one of the most serious humanitarian tragedies Sudan has witnessed in its modern history. Every day, the world wakes up to a new crime committed by the Rapid Support Forces militia against innocent civilians, amidst an unjustified international silence and a clear inability to take serious steps to stop these violations and hold the perpetrators and those who support them or provide them with political and military cover accountable. Today, the Urshi area, in the Umbro locality, was attacked by the Rapid Support Forces militia, resulting in the burning of several villages and widespread looting of citizens’ property, in addition to the complete burning of the Urshi market after its contents were looted.
I reiterate my condemnation of these ongoing crimes and violations against civilians, and we call on the international community and humanitarian and human rights organizations to take immediate action to protect civilians and stop the crimes committed against our people in Darfur.”
