Minister of Human Resources Discusses Strengthening Social Protection and Services for IDPs with Northern State Governor

Minister of Human Resources and Social Welfare,Moatasim Ahmed Salih, met this afternoon at his office in Khartoum with Lieutenant General Abdulrahman Abdelhamid, Governor of the Northern State, and the accompanying delegation.
During the meeting, the Governor briefed the Minister on the security and service situation in the state, affirming that his government remains in control despite the challenges resulting from the ongoing war. He explained that the state treats displaced persons as honored guests and fellow citizens, praising the local community for its understanding and support in hosting them, as well as its warm reception of returnees arriving from Egypt through the state.
The Governor highlighted the state’s success in countering rumors and psychological warfare, while drawing attention to seasonal health challenges, particularly outbreaks of dengue fever. He called for the development of a joint plan to provide healthcare services in displacement camps and appealed for support to vocational and technical training programs in the state.
For his part, Minister Moatasim Ahmed Salih emphasized that the ministry is closely monitoring issues related to displaced persons and commended the Northern State for its significant role in supporting and sheltering them despite misinformation circulated by some media platforms.
The Minister announced the ministry’s commitment to covering all administrative aspects of Al-Afad Camp and providing for the needs of displaced residents there. He also directed efforts to expand health insurance coverage by sponsoring vulnerable families and increasing access points for healthcare services. He praised the role of the Zakat Chamber in settling outstanding health insurance debts in the state.
The Minister stressed that vocational training represents the first line of defense against poverty and a key driver of economic recovery and development. He revealed the ministry’s plan to modernize vocational training programs in line with labor market demands and its readiness to organize a national vocational training conference with support from sisterly countries.
He further announced the opening of a vocational training center in Dongola later this year, along with support for the Merowe Vocational Training Center. He also confirmed that the results of Sudan’s national vocational secondary school examinations will be announced from the Northern State.
The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming the importance of coordination and cooperation to enhance social services and promote stability throughout the state.
