Minister of Culture Commends the National Library’s Role and Promises to Restore it to its Former Glory

Minister of Culture, Information, Antiquities, and Tourism, Khalid Al-Eisir, affirmed his ministry’s commitment to rehabilitating the National Library and restoring it to its former glory after it was vandalized by the rebel militia.

During his inspection of the library’s buildings in Al-Muqran today, accompanied by the ministry’s undersecretaries, Dr. Graham Abdul Qader and Ms. Sumaya Al-Hadi, and a number of ministry officials, the minister praised the historical role of the National Library, which houses more than 150,000 books, in addition to research, studies, and newspaper archives.

In a press statement, the minister explained that the visit aimed to assess the efforts of those in charge of the library, who are working diligently to restore it to its former glory.

He stated that the library represents a significant cultural and academic legacy and plays a vital role in raising awareness in Sudan. He also highlighted the role of libraries in addressing inherited historical issues, noting that the National Library is at the forefront, particularly after the war, in fostering and strengthening peaceful coexistence and promoting social and educational awareness in Sudan.

The Minister commended the library’s administration, represented by Ms. Amal Osman Mohamed, and the Undersecretaries of the Ministry of Finance for their ongoing support of the library.
