Human Rights Watch: Silence on the UAE in Sudan’s War Must End

Human Rights Watch delivered a powerful video intervention during the second meeting of the 62nd session of the Human Rights Council, as part of the briefing by the Fact-Finding Mission on Sudan.

In its intervention, the organization emphasized the ongoing violations against civilians in Sudan, particularly in Kordofan and White Nile states, with escalating drone attacks, arbitrary detentions, and torture.

It noted that while the Council addressed the crimes of the warring parties, it did not adequately confront the role of external actors supporting them, most notably the UAE.

Human Rights Watch referred to its report documenting the transit of Colombian military contractors through UAE facilities before their deployment to fight alongside the Rapid Support Forces militia, including during the El Fasher offensive.

The organization called on the Human Rights Council to break its silence and hold accountable all those who aid, abet, or contribute to international crimes committed in Sudan.
