Higher Education Minister Inspects Student Dormitory Rehabilitation Ahead of Study Resumption in Khartoum

Sudan’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Professor Ahmed Madawi Mousa, accompanied by the Secretary-General of the National Fund for Student Welfare, Dr. Ahmed Hamza Al-Amin, inspected the rehabilitation progress of several student dormitories in Khartoum, Omdurman, and Bahri as part of preparations for their upcoming inauguration by Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris.
The initiative aims to support the resumption of in-person learning at higher education institutions from their original campuses.
The inspection tour covered several dormitories, including Al-Shaheed Al-Fateh Hamza in Al-Fitihab for students of Omdurman Islamic University; Al-Shaheeda Suad Tambal in Al-Hilla Al-Jadida for female students of Sudan University of Science and Technology and Al-Neelain University; Nafisa Jankour Dormitory in Al-Sahafa East for female students of the Technological University and Jebel Aulia residence; Al-Shaheed Abu Dujana and Al-Shaheed Abdel Salam dormitories for University of Khartoum students; Al-Shaheed Atef Al-Tijani in Bahri for female students of Al-Zaeem Al-Azhari University; and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Dormitory in Al-Kadro for female students of Bahri University.
The delegation also included Major General Al-Bakri Abdel Rahim Abu Haraz, Director of the University Security Police; Dr. Mortada Ali Osman, Director of the Minister’s Executive Office; Engineer Adel Arki, President of the General Union of Sudanese Students; along with senior officials from the National Fund for Student Welfare.
The delegation reviewed reconstruction and rehabilitation works, including infrastructure upgrades, renovation of rooms and essential facilities, and the installation of modern electronic security systems and smart surveillance cameras at entrances and throughout the dormitory complexes to enhance safety and protect students and their property.
Professor Ahmed Madawi Mousa praised the National Fund for Student Welfare for its efforts in rebuilding and rehabilitating the dormitories, describing the work as a significant step toward providing a stable and supportive residential environment for students. He noted that the newly installed electronic security system represents a major advancement in campus safety, helping regulate access and improve overall security.
He called for expanding the system to all student dormitories nationwide as part of Sudan’s digital transformation efforts.
For his part, Dr. Ahmed Hamza Al-Amin affirmed that the Fund is implementing its rehabilitation plan in accordance with modern technical standards to provide safe, integrated housing that supports students’ academic performance and well-being.
At the conclusion of the visit, the Minister reassured students and their families inside and outside Sudan, urging them to return and resume their studies in the capital, Khartoum. He stressed that the state is witnessing increasing stability and that the joint efforts of the government, higher education institutions, and the National Fund for Student Welfare have created a suitable educational and residential environment for students to continue their studies.
