Director of the Geological Research Authority: We Rely on Training to Bridge the Skills Gap and Strengthen Exploration Activities
The Director General of the Geological Research Authority, Geological Consultant Ahmed Haroun Al-Tom, affirmed that the Authority is implementing an integrated program for the qualification and development of specialized technical personnel as part of its efforts to enhance the efficiency of geological work and strengthen mineral exploration and research capabilities in Sudan.
Speaking on Sunday at the launch of a specialized training course for staff of the Authority’s Red Sea State Office, Al-Tom stated that investing in human resources is one of the key pillars of the Authority’s strategy. He noted that continuous training contributes to the development of technical skills and keeps personnel up to date with modern technologies used in geological exploration and assessment.
He explained that the course is part of a series of training programs aimed at enhancing the capacities of employees in the fields of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing, and geological data analysis, thereby improving exploration efficiency and maximizing the utilization of mineral resources.
Al-Tom added that the Authority is working to expand both domestic and international training opportunities through partnerships with scientific institutions and specialized consultancy organizations, with the objective of preparing national professionals capable of leading research and exploration projects in accordance with the latest professional and technical standards.
The Director General pointed out that the geology and mining sector has suffered in recent years from the loss of a number of qualified professionals, making it necessary to intensify training and capacity-building programs to bridge the technical skills gap and ensure the continuity of institutional work at a high level of efficiency. He added that the training programs will cover all Authority offices currently operating in secure states.
Al-Tom stressed that the Authority remains committed to implementing its plans to build a strong base of qualified geologists and technicians to support the mining sector and enhance its contribution to the national economy. He emphasized that human capacity development will remain a top priority in the coming period.
