Artificial Intelligence Enters the Mineral Resources Sector: Geological Research Authority Trains Staff on AI Applications

The General Authority for Geological Research launched a training course on Artificial Intelligence (AI) on Tuesday, with the participation of a number of its employees, including geologists and administrative staff. The program aims to enhance participants’ capacities in utilizing modern AI applications and technologies.
Speaking to the press following the opening session, the Director General of the General Authority for Geological Research, Geological Consultant Ahmed Haroun Al-Tom, stated that the training course represents an important step toward strengthening digital transformation and improving institutional performance.
He explained that this introductory program will be followed by advanced training courses in artificial intelligence, data analysis, and related applications, contributing to capacity building and enhancing the professional and technical skills of employees.
Al-Tom emphasized that artificial intelligence is no longer an option but a necessity in data processing and analysis, particularly in geological and spatial data. He highlighted its growing applications in accounting, administration, research, and mineral exploration, noting that advanced countries have achieved significant progress through the adoption of these technologies across various sectors.
He added that, as part of its 2026 plan, the Authority is moving toward integrating AI applications into geological research, exploration activities, and data analysis processes. This is expected to improve the quality of outputs, accelerate analytical procedures, and support informed decision-making.
Al-Tom commended the Ministry of Minerals’ leadership for embracing modern technologies, stressing that the Minister’s directives to adopt technology and artificial intelligence align with the Authority’s vision of modernizing and enhancing the work environment.
He further noted that the outcomes of the training program will positively impact institutional performance in the coming period. Participants will serve as a core group responsible for transferring knowledge and training colleagues who were unable to attend, thereby expanding the benefits of AI knowledge and applications throughout the Authority and the Ministry’s various sectors.
