Sudan Recalls Ambassador from Ethiopia and Threatens Further Escalation

Sudan has recalled its ambassador from Addis Ababa and threatened further escalatory measures, in a manner to be determined by Sudan, should Ethiopia persist in its aggression against the country and its targeting of civilian facilities and infrastructure belonging to the Sudanese people.

In a joint press conference held late Monday night in Khartoum, and moderated by Minister of Culture, Information, and Tourism Khalid Al-Eisir, Foreign Minister and Sudanese Armed Forces Spokesperson, Brigadier General Asim Awad Abdel Wahab, revealed that the attack on Khartoum International Airport on Monday afternoon was carried out by a strategic drone purchased by the United Arab Emirates and launched from Bahir Dar Airport on the Ethiopian-Sudanese border.

The Minister of Culture and Information described Ethiopia’s actions as “a malicious, cunning, and reprehensible act that embodies disloyalty and represents a link in the chain of external conspiracies against the country.”

The official spokesperson for the Armed Forces presented a video to journalists showing the repeated attempts by drones purchased by the UAE to launch hostile sorties from Ethiopian territory since the beginning of March, specifically from Bahir Dar Airport. He noted that on March 17, one of three strategic drones was shot down in North Kordofan State. When the manufacturer was contacted and provided with the serial number, they stated that they had sold the drone to the UAE.
