Social Development Ministry, in coordination with the UNHCR, inaugurates community protection workshop in Khartoum locality

Mr. Siddiq Hassan Firini, Director General of the Ministry of Social Development and Acting Minister, inaugurated the training workshop for the community protection network at the Social Center. This workshop is part of a project implemented by the Ministry in coordination with the UNHCR. Addressing the opening session, he welcomed the attendees, emphasizing that “Khartoum is the heart of Sudan and one of the localities most severely affected by systematic destruction.” He commended its resilience under the leadership of the executive administration. He noted that “the state government and the Higher Emergency Committee are sparing no effort in directing services to the locality due to its significant needs,” adding, “If Khartoum locality prospers, the entire state will prosper.” He added, “Khartoum’s community must reclaim its role in a manner commensurate with the final outcome of the Battle of Dignity,” calling for “designing new roles for citizens and safeguarding and protecting Khartoum in the coming phase.” He also directed the creation of “a range of social activities and programs to serve the locality,” praising the UNHCR’s commitment to the protection project and its coordination in implementing protection programs. For his part, the Executive Director of Khartoum Locality emphasized the Ministry’s significant role in community protection, psychosocial support, and humanitarian aid, urging citizens to return and rebuild. Ms. Imtinan Othman Khamis, the Project Director and Director of the Community Development and Poverty Reduction Department, indicated that the workshop targeted 21 participants from the protection network to enhance their awareness of protection issues and develop their skills. The protection project includes the rehabilitation of three social centers in the locality. The opening ceremony was attended by the Executive Director of Khartoum Locality, with active participation from representatives of the Karari, Jabal Awliya, and East Nile localities, the Director of the Western Administrative Unit, and the Directors of Social Development in the Khartoum and Karari localities.
