One policeman killed and two members of the Joint Patrol injured in an armed clash in Omdurman

One policeman was killed and two members of the Joint Patrol were injured in an armed clash that occurred in Sabreen Market, Omdurman, on Saturday after the deceased violated instructions prohibiting the carrying of weapons in markets.
According to a press statement issued by the Police Command, the incident occurred when the Joint Patrol stopped the aforementioned individual – who was returning from operational areas – while he was walking around the market with his weapon, in violation of routine security orders.
Despite being informed of the standing instructions not to carry a weapon, he did not comply and opened fire on the patrol, resulting in the injury of two officers and his immediate death.
The local security committee initiated measures to contain the situation, as the injured were taken to the hospital and the body of the deceased was handed over to his unit. The official spokesman for the police forces confirmed that the incident was accidental, stressing the close coordination between the security agencies and the stability of the situation throughout the state.
