Joint Meeting Between the Ministers of Health of Sudan and Pakistan

On the sidelines of the 79th session of the World Health Assembly of the World Health Organization in Geneva, Sudan’s Federal Minister of Health, Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, met with Dr. Syed Mustafa Kamal, Pakistan’s Federal Minister for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination.

The meeting discussed ways to strengthen health cooperation between the two countries, building on the visit made by the Undersecretary of Sudan’s Federal Ministry of Health, Dr. Ali Babiker Sayed Ahmed, to Pakistan last December, during which he met with the Pakistani Health Minister and several health officials and institutions.

Both sides reviewed arrangements for signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), covering areas such as training and exchange of expertise, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and medical tourism. They also discussed signing an MoU between Sudan’s National Medicines and Poisons Board and Pakistan’s Drug Regulatory Authority, in addition to activating the previously signed MoU between the Sudan Medical Specialization Board and its Pakistani counterpart.

The Sudanese Minister presented the current health situation and the Ministry’s vision for rebuilding the health system following recent victories by the armed forces and the return of stability to Khartoum State, commending the resilience of Sudanese health workers.

For his part, the Pakistani Minister reaffirmed his country’s continued support for Sudan’s health sector and its contribution to improving healthcare services and implementing the agreed MoUs. He also encouraged benefiting from Pakistan’s experience in medical education.

Both parties agreed to form a joint technical team to follow up on the implementation of the agreed outcomes.
