Finance Minister Directs Enhancement of Electronic Collection and Invoicing to Expand Tax Base

Finance Minister Jibril Ibrahim emphasized his commitment to enhancing electronic tax collection to support the development of the Tax Authority’s capabilities, in line with the government’s digital transformation strategy. The minister described expanding the tax base and reaching new taxpayers as the current challenge.

During his meeting on Sunday, with the Secretary-General of the Tax Bearue, along with Acting Undersecretary of Finance Makki Abdel Rahim, Tax Bearue leaders, and the ministry’s legal advisor, the minister reviewed the Bearue’s operations and collection performance during the previous period. Ibrahim stressed the importance of learning from the experiences of developed countries in electronic invoicing.

Tax Bearue Secretary-General Badr Al-Tamam Mohammed Saad explained the status of electronic collection and the reinstatement of electronic invoicing within the Bearue, noting that the plan for implementing electronic invoicing has been submitted to the Ministry of Finance.

He explained that the Bureau is proceeding steadily in its implementation in a way that ensures greater transparency, contributes to increasing revenues and reducing disputes between the Bureau and taxpayers, and supports the government’s steps towards tax reform.
