Energy Ministry Seeks State Support for Expanding Solar Energy Projects in Northern State

Ministry of Energy and Petroleum stated on Thursday that it is seeking “state support for expanding solar energy projects by passing the relevant legislation, exempting solar inputs from customs duties, and providing financing from banks to encourage private sector expansion and project owners to cover the agricultural and residential sectors as an initial phase.”

Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Engineer Al-Mutasim Ibrahim Ahmed, confirmed that there are emergency measures in place to address the national electricity problems and work towards stabilizing the electricity supply, particularly in the Northern State.

He emphasized the importance of electricity in public life and its role in supporting the national economy and production.

This came during his meeting with the Minister of Finance and Economy of the Northern State, Amir Hassan Al-Bashir, and the Minister of Infrastructure, Engineer Mohamed Sayed Ahmed Faqiri, in the presence of Engineer Abdullah Ahmed, Director General of the Sudan Electricity Holding Company. The meeting reviewed the electricity situation in the Northern State and the challenges it faces, which have led to instability in the electricity supply in the state.

The meeting discussed emergency solutions and the status of the solar power plant project in the state, which will produce 10 megawatts, in addition to providing the Northern State transformer, the status of the thermal power plant, and the Egyptian electricity interconnection projects.

For his part Minister of Finance of the Northern State emphasized the importance of a stable electricity supply and its role in increasing production in agricultural projects, ensuring food security, and addressing the challenges facing the health sector and hospitals due to the instability of the electricity supply.
