Agreement to Strengthen Health Insurance Services for North Darfur IDPs and Review the 2026 Plan

The Director General of the National Health Insurance Fund, Dr. Farouq Nour Al-Daem, met on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at the Fund’s headquarters in Khartoum with the Governor of North Darfur, Al-Hafiz Bakhit.

The meeting discussed the provision of health insurance services for internally displaced persons (IDPs) from North Darfur State, as well as ensuring comprehensive coverage of health insurance cards for all citizens.
In press statements following the meeting, Dr. Farouq Nour Al-Daem said the Governor’s visit addressed service delivery for IDPs, population coverage under health insurance, and the provision of services for cardholders, in addition to seeking funding mechanisms for those not currently covered.

He affirmed that the Fund has provided medical services through three models in the states of Northern, North Kordofan, and White Nile. He added that an agreement was reached with the Governor on the outlines of a plan to deliver, improve, and review services. He also revealed that a broad meeting will be held with health insurance directors from the three states and North Darfur to assess the performance of the plan for the first half of 2026.

For his part, the Governor of North Darfur, Al-Hafiz Bakhit, praised the significant role played by the National Health Insurance Fund in delivering services to all citizens, particularly IDPs from North Darfur, affirming confidence in the continuity, quality, and inclusiveness of these services.
He noted that the meeting comes within the framework of addressing citizens’ concerns, especially health insurance, under the current circumstances.
