The largest comprehensive geological survey project launched
Minister of Minerals, Nour El-Daem Taha, inaugurated the comprehensive geological survey project this afternoon at the headquarters of the General Authority for Geological Research. The inauguration was attended by the Prime Minister, Dr. Kamil Idris, the Minister of Finance, Dr. Jibril Ibrahim, and the Governor of Khartoum State, Mr. Ahmed Osman Hamza. This project is part of the Ministry of Minerals’ strategic initiatives aimed at developing the mining sector and maximizing its role in supporting the national economy.
During his speech, the Minister of Minerals explained that the project, in its first phase, covers six states, marking the beginning of a new era in natural resource management based on modern scientific principles. This approach relies on building an accurate and comprehensive database that contributes to improved planning and enhanced efficiency in the exploitation of mineral resources.
He emphasized that the project represents a pivotal strategic step that transcends being merely a technical program. It establishes an advanced stage in the management of the mining sector, supporting economic stability and contributing to improving the living conditions of citizens. He indicated that the next phase aims to diversify the economic base by expanding exploration for strategic minerals such as copper, iron, zinc, and chromium, alongside developing processing industries to achieve added value instead of exporting raw materials.
He added that the Ministry is working according to an ambitious strategy that includes modernizing geological surveying techniques, regulating traditional mining and integrating it into the formal economy, as well as combating smuggling, strengthening resource oversight, and building the capacity of national personnel to ensure sustainability and knowledge transfer.
He reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to continuing to work in coordination with various state institutions to achieve optimal utilization of the country’s natural resources and support the comprehensive development process.
For his part, the Director General of the General Authority for Geological Research, Geological Consultant Ahmed Haroun Al-Tom, affirmed that the project represents a genuine strategic transformation achieved through national expertise. He explained that the first phase includes six states, beginning with the River Nile State, according to a well-studied and comprehensive plan.
