Sudan strengthens inter-ministerial cooperation to combat cholera and ensure health security

As part of the Pandemic Preparedness and Response, the Federal Ministries of Health, Agriculture, Irrigation, Finance, and Economic Planning signed a joint action document aimed at enhancing health security and confronting cholera and water-related epidemics through the implementation of the National Cholera Control Strategy for the period 2026-2030.

The document affirms the commitment of the Ministry of Health to early preparedness, monitoring, treatment, and control of epidemics, while the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation is responsible for providing safe drinking water in accordance with health standards. The Ministry of Finance is committed to providing the necessary budgets through national resources and international support.

The Federal Minister of Health, Prof. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, praised the role of the Ministry of Finance in making health a priority, pointing out that challenges still remain. However, with coordination and joint action, it is possible to keep Sudan free of cholera. He stressed that the success of the strategy depends on the commitment of partners, pointing to the initiative of Prime Minister Prof. Kamel Idris to defeat malaria and achieve the slogan “Sudan is free of malaria.”

For his part, the Federal Minister of Finance, Dr. Jibril Ibrahim, affirmed his ministry’s commitment to health, praising the efforts of the Ministry of Health and development partners from United Nations organizations and agencies, and calling for the promotion of prevention as better than cure.
