Partnership between the National Workers Bank and NSWF Workers’ Union to Provide Supportive Services for Employees

The Director General of the National Workers Bank, Mr. Mohamed Iqbal Babiker, met with leaders of the National Students Welfare Fund (NSWF) Workers’ Union to discuss ways to enhance cooperation in providing supportive services to employees at the General Secretariat and in the states, through streamlined procedures and simplified conditions that suit their living circumstances.

This meeting took place this morning at the Director General’s office, and was attended by Mr. Makawi Ali Makawi, Head of the General Secretariat Workers’ Union, Mr. Abdo Idris Darar, Head of the Red Sea State Workers’ Union, and Mr. Hisham Al-Bahr from the bank’s management.

Financing Transportation, Solar Energy, and Electrical Appliances

The meeting also discussed mechanisms for providing transportation (rickshaws and tuk-tuks), solar energy systems, and electrical appliances to employees, as part of efforts to provide a decent life for them and their families after the difficult economic conditions resulting from the war. Both sides emphasized the bank’s pivotal role in providing seamless services that cater to the diverse needs of workers.

Special Account for Financing the States

The two parties agreed on arrangements to open a special account in the name of the General Secretariat Workers’ Union at the bank’s Khartoum branch. This account will be used to finance the necessary supplies for employees according to the specific needs of each state.

Praise for the Fund’s Role in the “Battle of Dignity”

For his part, Mr. Mohamed Iqbal praised the significant role played by the NSWF in providing student housing at the national and state levels. He noted its contribution to the “Battle of Dignity” by sheltering displaced persons in safe states and its ambitious program to rebuild housing units affected by the war.

Iqbal also commended the high level of coordination between the Fund, the Ministry of Higher Education, and universities in reopening universities and resuming studies. He further highlighted the Fund’s clear role in improving housing conditions in Khartoum State, which greatly contributed to the voluntary return of displaced persons to the state.

He emphasized that the Fund’s role extends beyond housing and living expenses to include creating a distinguished residential environment that contributes to stability and supports academic achievement.

Workers’ Bank was established for the workers.

The Director General of the Workers’ Bank stressed that the Fund’s employees deserve the Bank’s support for their programs and activities, affirming the Bank’s readiness to finance all projects that achieve a minimum level of stability for the Fund’s employees at the central and state levels through the union’s account. He stated, “The Workers’ Bank was established for the workers, to stand behind them, and to provide them with assistance and support.”

Union Welcomes the Partnership

For his part, Mr. Makawi, Head of the Union Unit for Employees at the General Secretariat, praised the partnership with the bank, describing it as “smart,” and commended the attractive and motivating offers the bank presented to the Fund’s employees in terms of facilitating and simplifying banking requirements and procedures, as well as special offers for the employees.

For his part, Mr. Abdo Idris explained that this movement comes within the framework of the great efforts made by the union to provide the basic services needed by the worker in the fund to cope with the economic situation and live with the steady increases in the markets.
