National University -Port Sudan Branch – Leads Efforts to Support IDPs

Amidst the increasing pressure on basic services resulting from the large influx of displaced people to Port Sudan during the war, the National University Port Sudan Branch emerged as a key player in supporting the community through educational, health, and humanitarian initiatives.

The Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Balla Abdullah Ahmed, affirmed that the university has dedicated its resources to serving the community and implemented programs in school health and mental health, in addition to awareness campaigns against drugs and harmful habits. It has also established partnerships with local and international organizations to support food, medicine, and water provision.

For her part, Ms Hadeel Awad Ahmed explained that the university organized medical camps and provided health services to camps and shelters, while students participated through a volunteer hours system in leading fieldwork.

These efforts exemplify the role of universities in crises, as the National University has transcended its academic role to become a comprehensive platform for community and humanitarian work.
