IGAD Delegation Arrives in Khartoum and Begins Arrangements to Resume Office Operations

A delegation from the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), tasked with inspecting the organization’s office in Khartoum, arrived in the country this week and has begun conducting inspections and making arrangements to prepare the premises for resuming its operations in Sudan.
The delegation visited, inspected, and examined the office premises with the assistance of the relevant security authorities.
Furthermore, Ambassador Al-Sadiq Elias, Director of the African Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, received representatives from the visiting IGAD office, in the presence of the official responsible for the file at the Ministry. They discussed arrangements for the office to resume its operations in Sudan.
In a related context, members of the IGAD delegation, along with Rania Hassan, Coordinator of the Idrissi Program and Head of Financial and Administrative Affairs at the Sudan office, and the Head of Financial Administration at the central office, met today (Thursday) with the Minister of State for Finance in Khartoum, Counselor Mohamed Nour Abdel-Daim. The meeting addressed arrangements for the return of IGAD and the reopening of its offices in the country, as well as the resumption of its activities following the lifting of the suspension of Sudan’s membership in the organization. The meeting also addressed all obstacles that might hinder the reopening of the organization’s offices and the resumption of its activities, and discussed ways and mechanisms to overcome these obstacles.
The Minister described Sudan’s return to the organization as an important step towards activating Sudan’s role in its regional and international environment. He noted the necessity of benefiting from the projects offered by IGAD and establishing a strategic partnership that supports economic development and reconstruction in the country.
For her part, Rania Hassan, the National Coordinator of the Idrisi Program in Sudan, explained that the meeting was fruitful and successful, discussing several aspects related to the resumption of the organization’s activities in the country. She emphasized that she received full support and a warm welcome from the Ministry, expressing her hope for the success of all efforts and initiatives aimed at serving the country’s interests.
In the same vein, Mr. Al-Amin Abu Al-Qasim, Acting Director General of the External Finance Department at the Ministry of Finance, affirmed the Ministry’s readiness to exert further efforts and coordinate with relevant authorities to reopen the organization’s offices, resume its activities, and benefit from the projects and services it offers to serve national interests.
