IGAD and U. of K. discuss the resumption of Sudanese universities’ participation in the IGAD universities’ network

On Thursday, April 9th, Professor Imad El-Din El-Amin El-Tahir Aradeeb, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Khartoum, received a delegation from the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), headed by Dr. Rania Hassan, at his office in Khartoum. The delegation is currently visiting Sudan. Also present were Professor Samia Mohamed El-Badawi, Secretary of Academic Affairs at the University; Professor El-Arqam El-Sanhouri, Deputy Secretary of Academic Affairs; and Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Babiker, Executive Director of the Director’s Office. The meeting discussed the resumption of the University of Khartoum’s and other Sudanese universities’ participation in the IGAD universities’ network, which had been suspended due to the war in Sudan.

The University Vice-chancellor welcomed the visit and thanked the delegation for their interest in revitalizing the participation of the University of Khartoum and other Sudanese universities in the organization’s activities at this critical time.

The meeting also addressed scientific and cultural cooperation and the conduct of joint scientific research among universities in the IGAD member states: Djibouti, Somalia, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Uganda.

It is worth noting that the University of Khartoum was among the universities that initiated the establishment of this association of university councils in IGAD countries years ago and participated in several meetings in Djibouti and other universities within the organization. The university official provided the delegation with a detailed explanation of the university’s achievements during the years of war, including the continuation of the educational process, the graduation of undergraduate and postgraduate students, the conduct of scientific research, and the participation of faculty members in international scientific conferences.
