EU Promotes €500 Million Funding Package for Sudan

The European Union reaffirmed its commitment on Sunday to supporting Sudan through a package of humanitarian and development programs exceeding €500 million. These programs, implemented in partnership with international and local organizations, aim to alleviate the ongoing crisis that has plagued the Sudanese people for the past three years.

In a press release marking three years since the outbreak of the conflict, the EU explained that the war, which quickly took on regional and international dimensions, has led to a widespread deterioration in the humanitarian situation, the destruction of infrastructure, the displacement of millions, and an escalation of human rights violations.

The statement emphasized that despite the world’s preoccupation with other crises, the EU continues to support Sudan through various programs designed to strengthen resilience and provide essential services. It also noted that European efforts include an active diplomatic track, in coordination with international and regional partners, to advance ceasefire initiatives and unify the visions of the Sudanese parties.

The European Union stressed that the solution remains in the hands of the Sudanese themselves through dialogue and consensus, noting that the stability of Sudan is a pivotal element for the stability of the entire region, and that the continuation of the suffering calls for urgent action to find a comprehensive political path that stops the conflict and rebuilds state institutions.
