Energy Minister: The oil and gas sector is one of the most important sectors in the national economy

Minister of Energy, Engineer Al-Mutasim Ibrahim Ahmed Ali, emphasized the importance of the oil and gas sector, which is a vital component of the national economy and a priority for the government of hope. He stressed the necessity of restoring the sector’s prominence in the national economy.

This came during his chairmanship of a meeting of senior managers at the Sudanese Petroleum Corporation, attended by Engineer Mohamed Saleh Osman, Head of the Steering Committee for the Undersecretary’s Office. The Minister reviewed the Ministry’s strategic issues, its vision for development, and how to address challenges to achieve the state’s national goals. He noted that the oil and gas sector is a leading and vital economic sector that drives economic, productive, and service activities by extracting the country’s oil wealth, meeting the nation’s needs for petroleum products, and bolstering the state treasury with financial resources. The Minister stated that despite the sector suffering significant damage to all infrastructure and basic elements of the oil industry system and supply chains in oil fields, storage facilities, and the Khartoum refinery, the Ministry has continued to work tirelessly to meet the country’s needs for petroleum products. He explained that the next phase requires rebuilding what the war destroyed in the petroleum sector.

To enhance its role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, the Ministry emphasized its commitment to encouraging initiatives and innovations that serve the energy sector by leveraging qualified personnel and fostering integration among various units. This aims to expedite work and achieve results with high efficiency.

Engineer Mohamed Saleh Osman, Head of the Steering Committee for the Undersecretary’s Office, added that despite the significant challenges the Ministry faced with the shutdown of the Khartoum Refinery, which forced the country to import all its petroleum needs, the Ministry managed to ensure the continued import of petroleum products to meet the country’s requirements and address the demands of the war effort. He also outlined the Ministry’s plans for rehabilitating petroleum facilities and securing the necessary funding.
