Egypt Reaffirms Rejection of Establishing Any Parallel Entities in Sudan

Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty held talks on Wednesday with Pekka Haavisto, the new Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Sudan, on the sidelines of the ministerial meeting of leading African countries implementing the Global Compact for Migration. They discussed developments in the Sudanese crisis and ways to contain the conflict.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Tamim Khallaf said that Minister Abdel-Aty congratulated the UN official on assuming his new post, affirming Egypt’s full support for his efforts in addressing the crisis in Sudan, in a way that contributes to restoring security and stability.

He also reviewed the parameters of Egypt’s position regarding the crisis in Sudan, emphasizing the need to preserve Sudan’s unity and territorial integrity, support its national institutions, and reject the establishment of any parallel entities. He further stressed the importance of launching a Sudanese-owned political process to end the protracted conflict.

He affirmed the importance of reaching a humanitarian truce as a preliminary step towards a sustainable ceasefire, allowing for the delivery of humanitarian aid and alleviating the suffering of the Sudanese people.

The Foreign Minister condemned all ongoing violations against civilians in Sudan, considering them a flagrant breach of international humanitarian law, and emphasized the necessity of protecting civilians and vital infrastructure.

He expressed Egypt’s categorical rejection of any external interference in Sudanese affairs that could fuel or prolong the conflict, stressing the importance of respecting Sudan’s sovereignty and supporting efforts aimed at de-escalation and reaching a comprehensive political settlement.
