Sudan Calls for RSF to be Designated a Terrorist Group

The Sudanese government has called for the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to be designated a terrorist group, just hours after the United States announced the inclusion of the Islamic Movement and the Muslim Brotherhood on its list of global terrorist organizations.

In a statement issued Tuesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said the government had followed the US decision to designate the Muslim Brotherhood in Sudan as a terrorist organization, reaffirming its principled and unwavering stance in condemning all forms of terrorism and violent extremism without exception or selectivity.

The statement added that any groups that violate international humanitarian law and commit war crimes or crimes against humanity within Sudan should be designated as terrorist groups.

It stressed the necessity of responding to the strong calls to include the rebel Rapid Support Forces militia on international terrorism lists. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to protecting the country’s security and stability and safeguarding the lives and dignity of its citizens. It noted that it will continue to take the necessary measures in accordance with national law and consistent with Sudan’s international obligations in combating terrorism and violent extremism.
