Sudan Asks Red Cross for Help in Uncovering Fate of Girls Abducted by Militia

Minister of Justice, Abdullah Mohammed Dirif, held a meeting in Geneva on Saturday with the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Mirjana Spoljarić, in the presence of the Minister of State at the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Welfare, Salma Ishaq, and the accompanying delegation.

During the meeting, the Minister reviewed the latest developments in Sudan, the government’s efforts to rehabilitate judicial institutions and resume their operations, as well as national initiatives to achieve peace and the proposed roadmap.

The meeting also addressed the government’s efforts to strengthen compliance with international humanitarian law and the role of the relevant national committee, emphasizing Sudan’s commitment to cooperating with the Red Cross in the areas of capacity building, family reunification, and addressing humanitarian issues related to the war.

For her part, the Minister of State stressed the importance of the ICRC’s role in helping to uncover the fate of women and girls who were abducted and forcibly transferred to areas controlled by the rebel militia, and in facilitating their communication with their families.

Meanwhile, the President of the ICRC affirmed the Committee’s commitment to continuing its humanitarian work and expanding its field activities in Sudan, including visiting places of detention and supporting family reunification efforts to alleviate the suffering of civilians.
