Minister of Human Resources Meets ILO Director-General in Geneva

The Minister of Human Resources and Social Welfare, Motasem Ahmed Saleh, met today in Geneva with the Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO), Gilbert Hongbo. They held an in-depth discussion on the priorities of cooperation during the next phase in light of the challenges Sudan faces due to the war, as well as ways to support the government’s efforts to restore economic activity and enhance social stability through employment programs, skills development, and expanding the umbrella of social protection.

The meeting confirmed an important consensus on the transition from the stage of general coordination to organized practical cooperation, as the Director-General welcomed the dispatch of a technical team from the organization to Sudan to identify priority areas of intervention in order to support employment programs, vocational training, and the development of social protection systems, especially in areas affected by the war.

The meeting also discussed opportunities to expand the PROSPECTS program to include additional states in a way that contributes to supporting the livelihoods of IDPs, returnees, and youth, as it represents a key entry point to achieve societal stability and promote early recovery. During the meeting, he reiterated Sudan’s keenness to strengthen its strategic partnership with the International Labour Organization (ILO) in order to serve the priorities of the Al-Amal government in rebuilding the labor market, developing the vocational training system, and expanding social protection networks as key pillars of the national recovery and reconstruction phase.
