Head of the TSC Meets with Liberian Foreign Minister
Head of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Lieutenant General Abdul Fattah al-Burhan, met today with the Liberian Foreign Minister, Ms. Sarah Beysole, in the presence of the Sudanese Foreign Minister, Ambassador Mohi El-Din Salem.
Ambassador Mohi El-Din stated in a press release that his ministry signed two Memoranda of Understanding with its Liberian counterpart concerning political consultations between the two countries and the lifting of visa requirements for diplomatic and special passports.
He explained that the Liberian Foreign Minister’s visit to Sudan is significant, given that Liberia is a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, and also because Liberia has a similar experience to Sudan’s ongoing conflict, from which it has recovered and held four successful elections.
He added that this visit marks the first time a high-ranking African official has landed at Khartoum Airport. This sends a message to all friends and brothers that Khartoum is now safe and that the government is operating from there and performing its duties with full efficiency.
He emphasized that the doors are open for everyone to witness the destruction and devastation wrought by this rebel militia against the state and its institutions, which has led to the displacement of millions of citizens from their homes.
Ambassador Mohi El-Din stated that the current stability and improved services in Khartoum are encouraging citizens to return voluntarily.
The Foreign Minister expressed his gratitude to the Liberian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for its visit to Sudan, noting that Liberia was the first African official to arrive in the capital via its airport.
For her part, Ms. Sara stated that the memoranda of understanding signed between the two countries open up broad avenues for consultation on various issues. She explained that lifting visa requirements for diplomatic and special passports allows for free travel between the two countries, a step that contributes to strengthening ties between Sudan and Liberia.
She added that the meeting with Head of the Sovereign Council addressed the importance of a peaceful settlement and dialogue to end the conflict in Sudan, ensure the protection of civilians, and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need.
She said she would convey everything she had seen and learned to the Liberian president so that he would be fully aware of what was happening in Sudan.
