The Sudanese Red Crescent Society announces its return to Khartoum to bolster humanitarian work

The Sudanese Red Crescent Society officially announced the completion of its return to Khartoum and the resumption of its field operations from there through its offices and staff, in response to the humanitarian appeal. This step comes at a time when the region is experiencing exceptional circumstances, necessitating a direct presence and effective operational mechanisms on the ground to ensure that aid reaches those who need it most.

In a statement to SUNA, the Society confirmed that resuming its operations from within the capital primarily aims to restore the full effectiveness of its humanitarian operations and directly oversee the distribution of food and medical aid in the most needy areas. It explained that through this return, it seeks to activate its extensive network of volunteers to provide emergency medical assistance and support hospitals and shelters operating under immense living and health pressures.

The Society confirmed that its teams are directly conducting field assessments of the damage and evaluating the current needs of the population, noting that providing clean drinking water and primary healthcare services is a top priority. It explained that this step was taken in close coordination with all relevant parties to ensure the safety and security of staff and volunteers, and to guarantee the smooth flow of relief convoys without any significant obstacles.

In a related context, the Society extended an open invitation to all international partners and humanitarian organizations to strengthen cooperation with its Khartoum State office, with the aim of addressing the growing food and medicine gaps.

The Society reiterated its firm commitment to the fundamental principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, foremost among them neutrality and independence, to ensure the continuity of humanitarian services at the highest level.
