Sudan Immunization Forum: Stronger Immunization, Safe Children, Brighter Future

The Sudanese Ministry of Health announced a historic achievement in vaccination coverage, as vaccination rates rose from less than 40% during the war to about 72% by the end of 2025. During the 2025 Immunization Forum, in the presence of the Global Vaccine Alliance and partners, the Ministry explained that the vaccination teams were able to reach 10 states instead of 5 and vaccinated about 290,000 children in the “zero-dose” category. It also revealed that 24 million people have been vaccinated against cholera and 9 million children against measles, amid efforts to ensure the cold chain is protected and vaccines reach all children without exception.

The Federal Minister of Health, Prof. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, described the achievements as a “Sudanese success story,” praising the efforts of the health workers who worked under fire and in flood conditions. He stressed that the ministry’s slogan, “Despite what is happening, we must continue,” was the main engine to restore the coverage rates, which jumped to 72% in record time. “No child should be left behind; getting vaccinated is an inherent right to life.”
