RSF Attack UN Aid Convoys in North Kordofan
The North Kordofan government stated that the Rapid Support Forces militia attacked humanitarian aid convoys belonging to the World Food Programme and fuel trucks at three locations in the state on Friday.
In a statement, the government strongly condemned the attack, calling on the international community, human rights organizations, and UN agencies to take decisive action, impose deterrent sanctions against the militia leaders, and prosecute them.
Military sources reported that the militia’s drones targeted trucks carrying food supplies on the road linking the cities of Al-Rahad and Umm Ruwaba in North Kordofan State, resulting in the death of one civilian and injuries to others, adding that the first attack occurred at dawn today, targeting three trucks in the city of Al-Rahad in North Kordofan. This was followed by another attack in the Allah Karim area near the town of Al-Samih in the same state, targeting approximately four trucks, some carrying relief supplies belonging to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP). This attack resulted in the death of one civilian and injuries to others.
The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) also targeted the city of Umm Ruwaba in North Kordofan with three drones, striking a truck and a fuel tanker, causing civilian casualties.
The Sudanese Doctors Network stated that the militia’s drones targeted a WFP relief convoy in the town of Allah Karim in North Kordofan, which was en route to displaced people in the city of El-Obeid
In a statement issued on Friday, the network affirmed that this targeting constitutes a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and a full-fledged war crime. It undermines humanitarian efforts aimed at delivering life-saving aid to civilians affected by the war, especially given the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the country. The network held the Rapid Support Forces fully responsible for this crime and called on the international community, the United Nations, and human rights organizations to take urgent and decisive action to protect humanitarian workers and ensure that there is no impunity.
It also called for an independent and transparent investigation into the incident, stressing the need to respect and protect aid convoys and humanitarian workers and to stop all forms of deliberate targeting of civilians and humanitarian infrastructure.
