Massive fire in Al-Daein due to a dispute over alcohol affects 30 homes

Local sources in Al-Daein, the capital of East Darfur State, reported that a member of the Dagalo militia set fire to the home of a woman from the Berti tribe in the Al-Minaa Al-Bari neighborhood after a verbal altercation that began with him demanding alcohol from the house during Ramadan.

When the woman told him she didn’t have any alcohol, the situation escalated into racist insults due to his affiliation with the Rizeigat tribe, before he set fire to the house.

The fire quickly spread to about thirty houses, causing panic and chaos among the residents, who were shocked by the rapid escalation, especially since it occurred during Ramadan, which only intensified their shock and anger.

Eyewitnesses indicated that the gunman threatened citizens with his weapon to prevent them from intervening, before a military vehicle arrived and took him to an unknown location, leaving the residents bewildered and worried about the recurrence of such violations.

This incident comes amid a continuing series of violent acts and violations perpetrated by militia elements, particularly from the Rizeigat tribe, who are frequently implicated in similar attacks against civilians and their families in East Darfur. This exacerbates the suffering of the population and raises concerns about the lack of effective protection for them.
